eBay recognises the importance of sellers adhering to the law. So, this update will ensure that all eBaybusiness sellers introduce a standardised returns policy. This will add credibility to your eBay store and increase levels of trust in your buyers!
All Sellers will need to implement the following:
· You must have a minimum return period of 14 days once your buyer has received their goods
· You must clearly state who is responsible for paying the return costs
· Returns must be accepted for ANY reason
· You can’t charge restocking fees (which are not allowed in the UK anyway)
Two new returns fields will come into effect as from September. These will specify whether you or the buyer will pay the return costs, and the returns period.

Fortunately, eBay is ensuring that the returns process will be painless as possible by introducing a new Managed Returns process. Buyers can opt in to this when it comes into force in September. It will allow buyers to manage all returns from My eBay, whilst eBay protects sellers. Buyers will be prevented from abusing their ability to return items. All information will be fully logged and recorded, so there won’t be any confusion!
eBay has said that it hopes to increase sales by tidying up the returns policies and process. Sellers have seen their sales increase by up to 9% when their returns policies are clearly stated on listings. The new returns fields are already in place, but the new Managed Returns process will make life even easier.
In fact, the process is almost entirely automated. So, what happens? Well, the shipping returns label will be printed out by the buyer. The seller then gets notified that the item is being returned, and sellers will also get a reminder to let them know when they should have received the returned item. This will cut the time spent communicating with buyers, so you can focus on sales.
You’ll also get a bonus if you use this process – no relist fees and your final value fees will be automatically reduced! If you’re already using Fixed Price multi-quantity listings, the relist fees won’t concern you. Nevertheless, the reduction in insertion fees will be useful. This could lead to more eBay business sellers choosing auctions because of the free relists.
If you want to use the Managed Returns process, the dimensions of your items must be less than 60x50x50cm, they must weight under 10kg and Paypal must be used.
