As from August 1st 2013, eBay is changing its Top Rated Seller system. Previously, you could display your Top Rated Seller badge on your account for each listing. The latest update means that Top Rated Sellers will only be able to display their badge on listings that qualify as Top Rated Listings.
The change also means that you will get a 15% discount on insertion fees for qualifying Top Rated Listings. Account level discounts have been discontinued, but you will get your listings boosted in eBay’s Best Match.
The new Top Seller discounts will be based on the selling price. So, we advise transferring your P&P costs onto the selling price of each item.
How do listings qualify as Top Rated?
If you want to ensure that your listings qualify, you will need to offer the following:
· Same day or next day dispatch
· 24 hour express delivery option
· An option for free domestic delivery
· You must also offer a minimum 14 days return period. However, this will become mandatory across the board from September.
It’s up to you to decide the order in which you present these delivery options to buyers. You don’t have to offer free delivery first. In fact, you could work it like this:
· Offer the standard delivery first
· Then an upgrade to the 24 hour option
· Followed by the downgrade to free delivery
Most buyers take the first option on offer and rarely look at the rest. This is especially true for people browsing on mobile apps.
Are there any Top Rated Seller exemptions?
If you’re offering items for “Collection in person”, it’s worth bearing in mind that the Top Rated Seller benefits won’t apply. So, you might want to consider ditching this option from your listings.
If you offer “Freight” delivery, only the 14-day returns period applies. You won’t need to comply with the other criteria. You won’t get the Top Rated badge on the listings, but you still get other benefits such as the free discounts and increased visibility.
New account-level requirements for Top Rated Sellers
eBay has slightly loosened the requirements. In order for your account to be classed as Top Rated, the new requirements are as follows:
· For UK and Irish sellers, the minimum sales value over the past 12 months will go down from £2,500 to £1,000
· The maximum count or percentage of 1 and 2-star detailed seller ratings will change to 0.5% or 2%
· When it comes to closed cases with no seller resolution, this remains the same at 0.3% to 2%
